BANCOMAT, Italy’s domestic payment scheme, and Lissi GmbH, a provider of infrastructure software for the EUDI Wallet, have launched joint testing activities to pilot Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) for the authorization of electronic payments via the wallet. The tests are based on Technical Specification 12 (TS12) of the European Architecture and Reference Framework, and the initial results have been positive.
Within the testing environment, BANCOMAT contributes its payments expertise as well as the components required for the issuance and verification of authentication attestations, while Lissi provides the wallet and the technological solutions that enable its integration with payment service providers.
"Interoperability must be a fundamental principle by design, enabling the Italian ecosystem to connect effectively with other ecosystems and diverse implementations across Europe."
Matteo Valenti, Chief Product Officer, BANCOMAT S.p.A.
"Payments are the domain in which the EUDI Wallet will be used on a daily basis. The fact that BANCOMAT is testing TS12 with our wallet demonstrates that the specification is reaching a suitable level of maturity and that Lissi can support both sides of the flow – the wallet, and the software that payment providers need to issue and verify SCA attestations."
Sebastian Bickerle, Co-Founder & CTO, Lissi GmbH
Through the APTITUDE consortium and its previously announced partnership with APSP, BANCOMAT is laying the foundations for an Italian federation capable of leveraging EUDI Wallet paradigms while applying proven business models typical of four-party payment schemes, thereby supporting the sustainable development of the future European ecosystem.
For Lissi, the tests confirm support for TS12 across both sides of the process: the Lissi Wallet as the wallet unit and the Lissi EUDI Wallet Connector as the issuing and verifying component on the payment service provider’s side – the software a scheme or payment service provider operates to issue SCA attestations and verify transactions. Strong authentication for service access and payment authorization is one of the Connector’s key use cases. Lissi is also engaging with other European payment schemes and payment providers to promote wallet-based authentication.
